At schools across the country, Hillel International's exclusionary policies
are crumbling.

It's happening at Princeton, where Professor Doug Massey spoke at Hillel
one day and publicly voiced support for BDS the next. It's happening at
University of Michigan, where Rabbi Arik Ascherman voiced his support for a
settlement boycott while giving a talk in the Hillel building.

Yet at the same time, student-led efforts are still stifled by Hillel
International's "Standards of Partnership." At University of Michigan,
when Jewish students organized a Palestine Solidarity Shabbat dinner as
part of Hillel's "Shabbat Across Campus" initiative, the local Hillel
chapter was forced to awkwardly distance itself from the event. Over 70
students attended the dinner, yet it could not be held under Hillel's
umbrella.

As more and more events at local campus Hillels cross Hillel
International's redlines, it's increasingly clear that Jewish students want
their communities to be open to all political views. Yet until these
top-down policies are eliminated, it will be impossible for students to
build these truly diverse, inclusive communities.

It's clear that Hillel International's policies don't work in practice. Bit
by bit, students are bringing open discourse into their Jewish communities.
Let's show our support.
