It's time again for our semi-annual Human Rights Film Series! The Human
Rights Film Series is an opportunity for campus and community members to
come together to view and discuss films pertinent to those issues that
face us all. Following each film, there will be a discussion facilitated
by a local campus or community member who has expertise on the topic of
the documentary. The films will be shown using IDF’s high-quality
projector and large screen. Light snacks and refreshments will be
available!

This spring, we have organized an exciting film series that not only
highlights those issues relevant to CU residents, but those to which many
local residents have committed their own life and work. The series
continues on Thursday, March 8 with "Who Killed the Electric Car?"

------

WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR?

Thursday, March 8th @ 7pm

It was among the fastest, most efficient production cars ever built. It
ran on electricity and produced no emissions. The lucky few who drove it
never wanted to give it up. So why did GM crush all of the EV1 electric
vehicles in the desert? This electric car prototype was so revolutionary
it inspired California to pass the Zero Emissions Mandate, which would
require 10% of cars sold to be emissions free by 2003. But the EV1
threatened the status quo. This film follows the life and death of the
EV1, examining its effects and how they rippled through the halls of
government and business. This film interviews and investigates automakers,
legislators, engineers, and consumers to solve the murder of the electric
car.

A must-see documentary about the politics of alternative fuel sources!!

The discussion following the film will be led by Professor Newell, a
Professor of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering and an Assistant Dean
of Engineering at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on
energy systems. He has been active in the alternative energy, resource
conservation and energy conservation areas for over 30 years. He is also
active in engineering education and is part owner of a technology company
(Newell Instruments, Inc) involved in energy-related research and
development.
