[Peace] All are invited to Vigil for Tamms Prison Reform in C-U

STATEWIDE INTERFAITH VIGIL for reform of the Tamms Correctional Center,
Closed Maximum Security Unit (supermax) in Tamms, Illinois.  This unit is 11
years old and all 245 prisoners are in solitary confinement 24/7 with no
visitors. Some of the prisoners have been there for ten plus years,
including many mentally ill men.

THE STATEWIDE INTERFAITH VIGIL for reform of Tamms

will be held on July 16, this coming Thursday.... From 6 AM to 2PM at
Tamms Supermax
where prisoners will pray in their isolation cells.

will be held on July 16,.... From 6AM to 10 PM in Chicago in Yoga and
Meditation classes where teachers will bring awareness to the issue of
long-term solitary confinement in Illinois by reading a brief statement and
offering time for contemplation.

will be held on July 16 in Chicago, 11 AM to Noon,  as an Interfaith Prayer
Vigil and press conference outside the James R. Thompson Center with leaders
from the Jewish, Catholic, Muslim and Protestant churches + REp. Julie
Hamos, Sponsor of the TAMMS Reform Bill
                             Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Tamms

will be held on July 16 in Champaign-Urbana, 6:30-7:30PM at 902 W.
Springfield Ave, corner of Lincoln, First Mennonite Church.    Muslim,
Lutheran, Baptist, United Brethren, Quaker and Mennonites will offer prayers
for the prisoner, their families and for the correctional officers. Names of
current Tamms prisoners will be read aloud, and ex-prisoners from the state
prisons will speak. Banners will be raised at the nearby busy intersection
before the program.

Prayers for all affected, and the reading of poetry from current Tamms
prisoners.


QUINCY*--Prayer Vigil*

Quincy IL 62301
Our Heavenly Father's Marian Movement of Priest Cenacle group will pray the
Rosary at 1:00 PM followed by other readings and prayers. Sister JoAn
Schullian, OSF, who is a Hospital Sister of St. Francis presently serving as
Pastoral Associate at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Decatur and Sister sponsor
of St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, will read a powerful prayer from Pax
Christi written by Sr. Diane Ortz who is a torture victim when she was in
Central America. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend. *
