Two good short films on interacting with police:
"Busted" and "10 Rules for Dealing with Police",
both from FlexYourRights.org.

When: 2:00pm, Sunday, June 27th (2-4pm or a bit later)
Where: Champaign Public Library (200 W Green St.), room "A"
Cost: Free. Refreshments & discussion follow. All are welcome.

What are your rights? What must, should, and shouldn't you do when stopped by
police, and what are special phrases to remember, while remaining civil, to
ensure that your constitutional rights are retained?

All of us, young people and adults, should be aware of this stuff.
For example, did you know that police are free to lie to you?
(One of our adult members didn't, and it cost her $500 a few years ago.)
"10 Rules" also includes particular advice to non-citizens on dealing
with police and with ICE.

Could be especially good to discuss these in light of Champaign's
review of the police complaint process, and of the Supreme Court's
recent lousy ruling that simply being silent doesn't ensure
your 5th amendment right to silence: you must say that you're
asserting that right.

Each film is about 40 minutes. Sponsored by AWARE Films.

[We've borrowed these films from Barbara Kessel of Books to Prisoners, who has
shown them elsewhere, including on UPTV and at Don Moyers Boys and Girls Club.
Barbara will be there for the discussion.]
