The University of Illinois Department of Urban and Regional Planning will
be hosting a showing of Land of Opportunity, a film by Luisa Dantas about
the ongoing effort to rebuild New Orleans, presented through the eyes of
several residents and participants. Through diverse stories of ordinary

immigration, and affordable housing. Dantas has dedicated five years of
her life and taken thousands of hours of film for this effort. The showing
will be followed by an open discussion with the filmmaker. More
information, including video clips, can be found at
http://www.landofopportunitymovie.com/.

Co-sponsored by

Also, Luisa Dantas will be on the radio on WILL Focus 580 on Monday morning
at 10:00am. Listen in for a preview of the film and more discussion with
the filmmaker.

A personal note: I worked closely with Luisa in New Orleans, and she is the
best observer of post-Katrina life in New Orleans. She was on the ground,
every day, filming something somewhere, for about five years. She had no
preconceived agenda, and she learned from what she observed. Unfortunately,
the film is only a tiny fraction of what she has done, but it's the part
that we get to see. She will be presenting the film at the University of
Chicago, so I arranged for her to come here as well. I strongly encourage
you to attend.
