[Peace] Help Us Save Troy Davis

To our friends at AWARE,
Greetings.

  As you likely are aware, Troy Davis faces execution in Georgia on
Wednesday, September 21. Amnesty International has called for an
International Day of Action for tomorrow, Friday, September 16. Amnesty, the
NAACP, the ACLU, members of Troy's family, members of the Campaign to End
the Death Penalty, including exonerated Illinois death row inmate Darby
Tillis, and thousands of others, will march and speak out in Savannah and
Atlanta, and around the world, tomorrow.

Closer to home, members of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty, the
International Socialist Organization, and other groups are taking action in
Urbana-Champaign.

Petitioning has been on-going for the past week.

On Friday, September 16, we will hold a "Rally for Troy Davis" at 12:00 Noon
at the Alma Mater statue at the corner of Green of Wright, on the UIUC
campus, as a part of the International Day of Action.

We will continue to petition and contact the Georgia Board of Pardons and
Paroles this weekend and into next week.

On Wednesday, September 21, we will hold a "Speak Out: No Death Penalty!
Save Troy Davis!" event at 5:30 pm, again at the Alma Mater statue at the
corner of Green of Wright, on the UIUC campus. Troy is set to be executed at
6:00 pm Urbana time, and we feel it is vital that we stand in solidarity
with Troy, no matter the outcome of his clemency hearing, and to either
celebrate or victory or to make known our outrage at the injustice carried
out.

We would appreciate it if you could let your members and friends and
comrades in struggle know about these events. I have attached the leaflets
and other information to this email. We would also like to have you join us
at these events, or help with petitioning and organizing calls to Georgia.

Further, we would like to have a representative of  AWARE to speak for a few
minutes at either or both events. Allow me to apologize for the short notice
of tomorrow's event. There has been a great deal to organize and we have not
always been as efficient as we need to be.
