Speak Out at the School Board Meeting In Support of Centennial High School
Students Involved in a “Black Lives Matter” Demonstration (on Thursday,
December 4, 2014) Inside and Outside the High School

Monday, December 8, 2014

6pm

Champaign Unit #4 Board of Education Regular Meeting
6:00 p.m.

at the E.H. Mellon Administrative Center / 703 South New Street, Champaign,
Illinois

A motorist drove into a crowd of students who were holding a rally outside
Champaign Centennial High School to protest the grand jury decisions in the
police shooting deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. // The driver
claims students damaged the windshield. Some students say the driver
motored through the crowd while giving them the middle finger. // \\ Watch
a video of the incident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vU7s_kOGV-k

Police say they have no proof that the driver flipped off the students and
are not assigning intent to the driver. // Champaign police identified an
18-year-old student who was responsible for damaging the vehicle and the
student was initially taken into custody for criminal damage to property
and mob action. Police released the student.

(The News-Gazette, of course, also has articles on the events -- typical NG
articles, one-sided -- but the NG does have more direct communication with
the police and state’s attorney, i.e. The System)
