Pauline Oliveros*, an icon in the history of American modern music, will be in residence at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Friday, November 13 until Tuesday, November 17, 2009 as a George A. Miller Visiting Artist. A pioneer of electronic music, Oliveros (born May 30, 1932) continues today to explore electro-acoustic music as a performer/composer through the use of new technologies. She has produced a large body of internationally acclaimed concerts, recordings, publications, and music compositions for soloists and ensembles, as well as for dance, theater, and multi-discipline art projects. Through focused attention strategies, improvisation, and skilled musicianship, Oliveros developed Deep Listening, a practice in which she has educated, inspired, and mentored a vast number of emerging and established artists of all ages, throughout the world.
All events are free and open to the public.
