1. VIP is working with the Points of Light Foundation as part of a
national initiative to honor the victims of September 11th by doing
community service projects in their memory. The first of many activities
is approaching (as in this SATURDAY!) -- the American Heart Walk (from
8:30-12pm in Mahomet, IL). They need help with registration, road guards
and prize drawings! And guess what transportation is provided at the
Illini Union circle drive at 8:30 -- look for a green van! Please contact
Patty Valassis at valassis at uiuc.edu if you plan to attend.

2. Become the Grouch (Oscar that is): Fall Clean-up this Saturday, October
19th from 8:00-2:00pm -- unload trash from peoples cars. This is
incredible service because trash disposal is a very costly service and
this is being offered FREE for our community!!! Please contact OVP at
333-7424 to sign up or for more information.

3. "You may GIVE without LOVING, but you cannot LOVE without GIVING."
Warm-A-Kid Drive is here and collecting coats, hats, and gloves for
children. Please bring items or mail donations to Office of Volunteer
Programs on 1401 West Green Street in Room 277 in Urbana. Please deliver
items by Monday December 2, 2002 or contact the Family Information Center
at 351-3701 and they will pick it up. If you have any questions please
contact us at 333-7424.

4. What do you do with your pop tabs? "Throw them away" (badness) /
"Recycle them" (better...and yet...) What can you do with your pop tabs?
"Twist them off and save them." Why save them? "Pop tabs can be recycled
for a great cause!" Join the Office of Volunteer Program with the
collection of pop tabs for Persons Assuming Control of their Environment
(PACE, INC). More pop tabs=more money for PACE. If you are interested in
collecting pop tabs you can bring the tabs to the Office of Volunteer
Programs in room 277 Illini Union (RSO complex) or for more information
you can contact us at 333-7424 or ovp at uiuc.edu.

5. Think back to your childhood when you and your friends use to bob for
apples and did pumpkin carvings for Halloween... if you enjoyed those
activities then join "Ghoulish Overnight" which is on October 26th-27th.
You will be helping with all the themed events. Please contact Jill
Becker at 398-2374.

6. Listen up volunteers! You are needed for IHSA football championships on
November 29-30 at 10am, 12pm, 4pm, and 7pm both days. So if you love
football or just want to help contact Sue Wedig at 351-4133 or email
suew at champaigncounty.org.

7. FREE T-shirt anyone!!! Volunteer at this years Health/Grad School Fair
on October 28 where you will setup booths and Graduate schools will be
attending on the 29th. They need help on both days setting up, directing
traffic, and general program assistance. They have shift ranges from 8-9,
10-11, 12-1, 1-2, and 2-3 on both Monday and Tuesday. Contact Chris Evans
at cvevans at uiuc.edu.

8. The Office of Volunteer Programs is conducting a short survey to
understand why students volunteer. Please take the few minutes to fill
out this short survey at:
http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp/resources/survey.htm. If you have any
questions or concerns, please contact Kathy Guthrie at kguthrie at uiuc.edu.
