1. The East St. Louis Action Research Project (ESLARP) will have an
Outreach Weekend in East St. Louis on September 12 & 13. UIUC Students,
faculty and staff volunteers will work alongside local residents and
members of nonprofit groups on various projects in the community. Among
other projects, this semester we are planning to build a shed on the back
of Aspirations Adult Day Center, hang drywall in a community theater and
paint a handicap ramp. See www.eslarp.uiuc.edu/volunteer for information
on the weekend and the registration process. Questions? Call Vicki or
Justin at 265-0202.

2. The Urbana park District is looking for students to volunteer for the
annual Halloween FunFest HAUNTED HOUSE. They need volunteers to build
scary scenes and dress up as creepy creatures to run the house. All
equipment, props, costumes, and make-up will be provided. The Halloween
FunFest takes place at Lincoln Square Mall on Thursday, October 30th from
5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Volunteers will be needed on the 30th to run the event
and two days before to help build and set up. Contact Ellen Kirsanoff at
367-1536 or erkirsanoff at urbanaparks.org for more information.

3.The Champaign Park District is looking for people interested in working
with small children in learning to play soccer. We need coaches that are
enthusiastic, organized and like to be around children. Volunteer coaches
do not need to have a lot of soccer experience. The Park District offers
coaching training and other resources to help. Contact Hsiung Marler at
398-2550 if interested. Hurry! The season starts soon!

4. Alternative Spring Break applictions for Fall Break are due Monday,
November 15th. The issues this fall are Urban Poverty (Bridgeton, NJ),
Environmental/Recreational Issues (Willoughby, OH), and Multicultural
Issues/Urban Poverty (Detroit, MI). These break trips run from Saturday,
November 22nd - Wednesday, November 26th. (You don't have to miss
Thanksgiving!!) To pick up an application, go to the University YMCA at
1001 S. Wright St (across from Lincoln Hall). For more information
contact Bee at shalabi at uiuc.edu or Sean at smcarrol at uiuc.edu.

5. The Greater Community AIDS Project will be hosting its 15th Annual All
Walks of Life Walk for AIDS on Sunday, September 21st from 1:00 pm - 4:00
pm. Money raised from this event will go to support the housing,
healthcare, and emergency needs of people with HIV/AIDS in the local
community. For more information call 351-AIDS(2437)
